A total of 17 students along with their mentors – Dr. Azhar S. Shaikh and Prof. Manjunath Kamath had been to Feildking H.O unit, a Agricultural Machinery manufacturing company as a part of Industry visit which is situated at Industrial area Karnal, Haryana. Mr, Sachin, the Head HR addressed the students about history of the company and its importance in agricultural machinery manufacturing sector. Students had the opportunity to see and go through the manufacturing process of Field-King Manufacturing unit.

A Fifteen-Member team of MBA Department along with Prof. Sushma V, visited Goa for Industry-Academia connect and Site-seeing. This has not only strengthened the bond between students and faculty but has also enhanced the sense of belonging to the department and the institution. The Three-Day tour included visit to Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd and IFB in Verna Industrial Area, Goa where they viewed the Operations and also interacted with the HR Heads. The team also visited the historical places in Goa and returned with loads of memories to take forward.

A batch of 33 first year MBA students along with their 3 mentors covered Bhutan, Darjeeling and Gangtok as a part of their Industrial visit. They were accompanied by our own alumni Mr. Akashi Rai and Mr. Shobith Rai who run a travel firm called "Travas India".

Students visited Dochula pass, a mountain pass in Bhutan, enroute Thimpu and Punakha. The pass itself contained 108 memorial stupas present, which was a treat for the eyes. Passing through the Chilegam Valley, they reached the city of Punakha.

Students were taken across the capital city of Thimphu. The first stop was at Buddha point, which was built 3yrs ago. Where they got a glimpse of Thakin, the national animal of Bhutan, which belongs to a yak family. Later at the BBS view point, one could get a view of the Bhutan Royal Palace, Parliament, King's office, Students embarked on a trek upon Bhutan's most famous peak called the Tiger's Nest, also known as Paro Tatsang. The climb is known to be excruciatingly challenging but most of the group completed the trek successfully. Students also visited Darjeeling for the next part of the journey. Students visited Tiger's nest for the sunrise, and then the Himalayan Mountaineering institution, the Darjeeling Tea gardens, the Gorkha War memorial.

Students visited the Sikkim Manipal University and had a meeting with the director of the University. The students got a glimpse of the entire University located on the beautiful hills and across the river of Teesta. SMU was established in the year 2000.

The final day was a landmark as the students visited the forzen lake of Tsongo and made their way to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir. The route was beautiful with snow covered mountains and fresh breeze surrounding them.

This marked the end of the 9 day long Industrial visit. The entire industrial visit definitely created an atmosphere which brought the entire team together as one big family.

Twenty Six students from first year MBA accompanied by Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director-MBA and Prof. Girish Madla, Department of Business Administration visited Royal Selangor in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Royal Selangor International is a Malaysian pewter manufacturer and retailer, the largest of its type in the world. Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Royal Selangor has standalone stores in top retail capitals around the world, including London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, Melbourne and Sydney. Royal Selangor products are also carried by top department stores such as Wako in Japan, Harrods in London, and Hudson Bay in Toronto.

The students visited Bank Negara Malaysia which is the Central Bank of Malaysia. This bank was established on 26 January 1959 as Central Bank of Malaya. It acts as a banker and adviser to Government of Malaysia and regulate country’s financial institutions, credit system and monetary policy. Malaysian Prime minister’s house, “The Istana Negara” was also a part of the International Industrial Visit. It is the official residence of the monarch of Malaysia. It is located along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim in Segambut, Northwestern Kuala Lumpur. The palace opened in 2011 and replaced the old Istana Negara which was located at a different compound in central Kuala Lumpur.

The MBA students went on Industrial Visit to Delhi and Manali during the month of January. In Delhi they visited the Parliament house of Delhi which is commonly known as Sansad Bhavan. They had an opportunity to visit the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha session rooms, learned about the placement of the various ministers like seating arrangements of the Speaker and the parties. The students also visited the Delhi Metro Museum. It is the only Metro Museum in operational metro station. They got the opportunity to see the history of metros in India, the construction of metros, the colours of metro lines and their advantages, the future to connect entire India through metro and lot more.

“Sahyadri Wanderers”- Dr. Sharan Shetty, Dept. of Business Administration along with his mentees visited one of the Top Indian B-Schools - Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Udaipur. The team had an opportunity to interact with the CEO, Directors, HR personnel and the students of the institution. They also covered industries like Hindusthan Zink and Rock Star. They further moved towards Jaipur to visit Manipal University Jaipur, Jaipur Vidhana Soudha and Delhi Parliament including The House of The President.

The team visited the Legislative Assembly Bhavan and interacted with ministers and top officials. They had a healthy discussion on Politics and Management which brought out the essence of “Effective politics through best management practices”. The officials were impressed with the Sahyadri Mentor-Mentee System and have expressed their interest to visit Sahyadri and view the institution-lead start-ups.

The team’s Mentor-Mentee-Meet was organized at India’s Top most Houses of Parliament. The team had a great time at the parliament and had an opportunity to visit both Upper House and Lower House. The top officials of the Parliament appreciated Sahyadri for spreading the fragrance of Mentor-Mentee. The team also had an opportunity to visit India Gate and saluted the great sacrifice of Amar Jawan.

MBA students along with their mentors - Dr. Vishal Samartha, Prof. Prajwala Rodrigues and Prof. Guruprasad Rao visited Kwality Photonics Pvt. Ltd. situated in Hyderabad. This company is into production of LED segments and LED since 25 years. It has 10,000 customers and enjoys highest customer loyalty. It has received Corporate Award for Best Performance in Electronic Components in MSME category. It has signed MOU with Telangana Government to produce 3 billion LEDs per annum with an investment of 200 crores. The team also visited Bisleri International Private Limited situated in Hyderabad Telangana. Bisleri started manufacturing mineral water since 1965. Telangana state Road Transport Corporation signed an MoU with Bisleri International for sale of bottled water at bus stations. As a part of their Social Responsibility, they have started several initiatives such as - Plastic Recycling, Rain Water Harvesting and Ozone Treatments.

MBA students along with their mentors visited HMT Ltd., Kalamassery unit at Cochin, Kerala. The printing machinery division of HMT Limited was set up in North Kalamassery in 1972 and the major products here are printing machine and a programmable guillotine. It also produces various products such as flexible turning cells, CNC turning cells, copying lathes, centre lathes and CNC twin spindle chucker’s. Students got the opportunity to visit the production area and also met the Chief Security Officer and The General Manager of HMT Ltd. after the industrial visit. Students also visited the manufacturing unit of TRACO CABLE COMPANY which is under Kerala Government. The students attended a session where they got information regarding the trade of cables internationally. They got an opportunity to watch the packaging of cables for domestic as well as for exports.

MBA students along with their mentor Prof. Padmanabha B visited Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Private Limited plant located in Goblej Plant, Ahmedabad, Gujrat. It is the Indian subsidiary of Atlanta-based- The Coca-Cola Company that sells concentrates for a wide range of juice drinks and aerated beverages. They have a product portfolio of more than 3,500 beverages (and 500 brands). Mr. Shankar Sangramsingh Yadav, HR, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Private Limited, had arranged the visit to all sections of the factory and made presentation on the firm’s Business Model.

Dept. of Business Administration organized an industrial visit for a total of 60 first year MBA students to Adani Power Limited and RMC Ready Mix Pvt. Ltd. In Adani Power Plant, the students witnessed the enormous facility spread across 600 Acres. Adani Power Limited is the power business subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Adani Group with head office at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Mr. Vasanth, the HR Manager briefed the students on the operation of the plant. He also addressed the students about the operations at the HR Department answering all queries that students had relating to HR domain.

(MTL), Manipal to develop a productive interface between industry and academia. Mr. Raghuram, Head-HR of the Manipal Technologies guided the students and explained in detail the printing process. Major clients of MTL are Oxford, Indiannica, South India Bank, Andhra Bank etc. An interactive question & answer session was held and all queries of the students were answered by the Head-HR. Manipal Technologies Ltd. provides end to end secure print service such as security printing, variable data printing, digital printing, book printing, pre-media services, banking cards, smart cards, card management services, examination solutions etc. in a specialised offering solutions to banking, publishing, government, telecom, retail, pharma, FMCG etc.

Over ninety 2nd year students of MBA visited Bio Fuel Park at Shanthi Nagar, Hassan. Mr. Halesh, Training Staff, Bio Fuel Park, Hassan gave presentation on the topic – "The What, Why and How of Bio Fuel". He also explained the opportunities available in Karnataka for Bio Fuel plants. Students had an interactive session with insights being received on the subject. Students had an opportunity to view the manufacturing process of Bio Fuel & also the various plants used as an input in Bio Fuel manufacturing. First Year MBA students visited the Government owned Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited factory at Bengaluru. The factory is into production of Toilet Soaps, Detergents, Cosmetics, Agarbattis, Sandalwood Billets and Mysore Sandal Oil. Mr. Balakrishna, Public Relations Officer of the factory explained the manufacturing process of Mysore Sandal Soaps in detail and clarified all questions of the students. The company is on progressive growth for the last 10 years by increasing its production & sales volumes.

Students from first year MBA along with Prof. Girish M visited Madura Garments unit at Jakkur layout, Bangaluru. Mr. Abhilash, unit head, along with HR team explained the production process of the shirts and also the quality maintenance during production. The unit consisted of mainly women employees with few of them also being physically challenged. They had established facilities to take care of kids of employees who were working in the factory. During the Day One, they have visited the manufacturing division of Garuda Polyflex Foods Pvt Ltd.

Students had an interactive session with the Head HR, Quality Manager & Marketing Head of the company. Post which they were shown the manufacturing unit wherein the students had indepth understanding of the step by step manufacturing process of the company. Students were apprised that the firm is a Joint Venture between an Indonesia firm and an Indian Firm. They were also given heads up on the Quality Checks undertaken to ensure maximum Quality. They are currently producing Chocolate sticks, Jelly Drink & also imported Sweet Cheese Crackers as a pilot launch to study the customer preference regards this product to further manufacture it and launch it in the Indian market. Over 130 students are a part of the industry exposure visit in Bengaluru.

Students from 1st year MBA along with Prof. Ramesh KG visited the ITC Biscuit factory at Whitefield, Bengaluru. Students were addressed by Mr. Prakash, Chief Security Officer & Facility Manager about safety and hygiene factors to be followed at workplace. Mr. Vivek & Mr. Anirban, Plant Managers explained the entire production process including packing & dispatching. Mr. Abhishek, Chemical Engineer from IIT Kharagpur, who is currently the Production Manager explained as to why ITC ventured into diversified business strategy, the customer segment they primarily target, the market share they hold in this segment & also about the quality policy what ITC follows to ensure food safety.

Over 39 first year MBA students along with Prof. Sushma V visited the manufacturing unit of Dairy Day Ice cream, one of the leading brands in South India. Students had a chance to view the entire manufacturing process step by step including the procedure of doing Quality Check of the ice creams manufactured. They were also taken to the laboratory and demonstrated on how the contents of ice cream are measured and quoted on the packaging label. Students had an opportunity to visit the Cold Storage room with temperature as low as -25 degrees Celsius. After witnessing the manufacturing process, students shared their observations & findings with the HR head and clarified their doubts in terms of operations. Students were also apprised of the CSR initiatives of the firm - Every year Dairy Day donates 5000 Notebooks to children in Govt. Schools. They also offer scholarships to needy yet deserving students to assist them in fulfilling their academic aspirations. In addition to this, they have planted 400 saplings in the vicinity of their manufacturing unit as a contribution to the environment

Students of first year MBA visited Friends Plywood and Bharati Shipyard in order to gain exposure to the operations in industry. Students viewed the entire manufacturing process & marketing of the plywoods by Mr. Pawanjaya, Managing Director. The students went through various production lines and processing of the wood and were given information on the imports of wood from various countries. Bharati Shipyard provided students with the understanding of how the ship building is done and where these ships are used. The Manager of the firm explained the various processes involved and also explained the cost involved. Students were also provided insights into the various kinds of ships that existed.

First Year MBA’s visited the Pilikula Biological Park as a part of their Marketing Course. The students were divided into 10 teams and were assigned a project to understand the issues of Pilikula Botanical Park, increase footfalls and also ensure more sales conversion in terms of visitors to the Park. The students would be working towards sourcing funds to adopt animals by selling the zoo concept to individuals or business organizations and also would have to create promotional videos and post on social media. Students also interacted with the employees of the biological park.

Pilikula Nisargadhama project commenced in 1996, with a view of protecting the environment, heritage and improving tourism. It was an effort to develop this natural habitat spread across 370 acres into a tourist hotspot. Pilikula Nisarga Dhama is a major eco-education and tourism development project promoted by the District Administration of Dakshina Kannada in the beautiful city of Mangalore in Karnataka State, India. A significant Biological Park is established in Pilikula Nisarga Dhama has major focus on the wildlife species of Western Ghats. The park is named as Dr. Shivaram Karanth Biological Park. The park consists of an area of 82 hectares. In accordance with prevailing laws, the central Zoo Authority of India has recognized the park.

Pilikula Zoo has been classified as a Major Zoo by the Central Zoo Authority of India. It is the only zoo recognized as a breeding centre for King Cobras. However, for the development, maintenance and for various programmes, it entirely depends on local revenue and donations. It incurs huge cost on feeding, medicines, shelters, management etc. Therefore it needs support from the public to maintain and develop as one of the best Zoos of our country. Amazingly, Pilikula has been made possible by generous people who understand the need & benefit of conserving biodiversity and cultural heritage and have come forward with financial resources as well as personal involvement.

MBA (HR Specialization) students had been to Mphasis Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru on an exposure visit to interact with the industry experts in the managerial position. Mr. Ben Subbarao, HR Business Partner spoke to the students on the expectations of Corporate Business houses from the MBA - HR’s. He emphasised that HR Analytics is the need of the hour and was delighted to know that few students had already pursued a project on HR Analytics in a Health Care sector. He ascertained the count of students who are flexible to pursue their career outside Mangaluru since Mphasis Pvt Ltd would soon conduct campus recruitment drives for MBAs and place students in their corporate offices outside Mangaluru. He was amused to see that majority of the students are passionate about their role in HR and are flexible to start their career anywhere in India and abroad. Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director & Prof. Sushma V from the Department of Business Administration accompanied the students during the visit.

MBA'S on an Outbound Training Camp at Nature Bound Sahyadri

27 students from second year MBA Marketing and HR Specializations accompanied by Prof. Girish M, Dept. of Business Administration participated in Outbound Training Programme at ‘Nature Bound Sahyadri Camp’ at Ankola. The course facilitated experiences through activities and games to get a practical insight to individual behaviour and group dynamics. The purpose was to reflect upon desired responses and experiment them in real time situations and further reflect on what to expect from future experiences.

The students were divided into three teams and each team was allotted with a trainer. As soon as the students entered into the camp they had to deposit all the gadgets and hence had to stay away from digital life for three days. The students also had to stay in tents.

Early morning 5.15 am the students had to wake-up and do jogging and warm-up only after which activities for the day began. The sessions would normally conclude only at around 10:30pm in the night.

The activities included mind games, adventure and treasure hunt in forest using navigation compass. The activities included briefing sessions on personality development, smart thinking, development and application of strategies.

The course has definitely brought in changes in personal and professional behavioural pattern of students and helped in reinforcing the theories and principles studied in the classroom.

168 students from the first year MBA accompanied by five faculty members participated in Outbound Training Programme at Bhagamandala, Madikeri District. The training aimed at developing skills based on a series of tasks which tested them on bonding, strategizing, planning, out of the box thinking, people management and even financial management.

The students were divided into 10 teams and each team was given 55 percent ownership in their company and 5 percent stake in each of the other 9 companies. Each team also started with a cash balance of Rs. 1 lakh. After every couple of tasks the teams were able to sell or buy stake of any other company in a secret auction. Based on their performance, each team got Rs. 40,000 to lose a maximum of Rs. 10,000 for every task. The cash in hand at the end of every two rounds determined their minimum share price for the auction. The winner team was evaluated based on the total cash in hand plus total net worth (total of the product of shares in a company multiplied by the last share price of respective teams). Hence this activity is called “NEIGHBOURS ENVY, OWNERS PRIDE”. In addition to this, the team was given a joker round “TASTE THE THUNDER” wherein if a team plays the joker before the task, their winnings or loss was doubled. The students were exposed to practicality of Marketing, Finance, HR and also leadership skills.

In between the tasks the teams also had to fire one person from their team which made them understand corporate reality of people management. For most of the students this was also their first experience to stay in dormitory and know the difficulties faced. Mr. Venkat Ramani and his team facilitated the training activities.

MBAs visited New Mangalore Port Trust, Mangaluru to give students an insight into exports & imports from the port and to interact with the employees of NMPT, Mangaluru. Students interacted with multiple ship crews from various countries and understood the mechanism of marine life aboard. A total of 14 students along with 2 faculty members visited the port.

Ms. Mouna Muthamma C P, Mr. Prajwal Kaverappa M N, Mr. Ranjith M V, Ms. Aswathi V A, Ms. Ayisha M E and Ms. K R Lavanya, first year MBA students were chosen by NHRDN team to be a part of the volunteering team for the NHRD Students & Faculty Conference as part of 20th NHRD National Conference to be held on 7th December, 2016 at Christ University, Bangalore. It is worth mentioning that these were the only students to be chosen outside Bangalore as volunteers of this event. As part of the training for the volunteering team, these students had the opportunity to visit Volvo Buses India Pvt Ltd plant at Hoskote, Bangalore. Mr. Pronob Chetia, Director-HR, Volvo Group Truck Ops, Logistics Services-Asia Pacific Region addressed the students regarding the organization. Mr. Arun Balasundaram, Manager - Strategy, Business Intelligence, Demand Planning at Volvo India Private Limited, Bus Division addressed the students regarding the strategy of Volvo India. Mr. Vipin, Project Manager, Volvo India trained the students on Project Management to enable the students to plan and execute projects. Post which, students were divided into groups and were asked to develop strategies for the project assigned to them for the NHRD conference. 17 students in total from Christ University, ISBR, M S Ramaiah University and Surana College were part of the training. The students were then taken through a plant visit and also taken through the testing track and safety measures followed by Volvo India.

The students of Sahyadri would focus on Digital Marketing and backend process for the Conference hence would be trained in Digital Marketing by Planet Ganges, partner of NHRD, free of cost. Mr. Girish Madla and Mr. Ramesh K G, faculty of MBA accompanied the students.

MBA STUDENTS & FACULTY ATTEND "THE NATIONAL NHRD STUDENTS & FACULTY CONFERENCE" IN BENGALURU

A total of sixty nine first year MBA Students and four faculty members from the Department of Business Administration participated in the "The National NHRD Students & Faculty Conference" held at ChristUniversity Campus, Bengaluru.

The NHRD team is appreciative about Sahyadri MBA for the overwhelming participation that too in huge numbers. It is also worth noting that Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is the only college from Mangalore with representation from students and faculty members in this mega event.

In addition to this, six students from the first year MBA are selected as volunteers for the entire NHRD event who had an opportunity to visit Volvo Plant at Hoskote earlier this year. These students have been issued free passes to the main conference and NHRD Showcase that was held at Palace Grounds, Bengaluru.

Students specializing in HR from the Department of Business Administration visited Mphasis Ltd, Mangaluru. The visit was well-planned with representatives from various functions in HR, addressing the students on matters relating to Recruitment, Training & Development, Line HR and Strategic HR Management. It was a great opportunity to interact with Mr. Joy Devasia, VP & Site Head, Mr. Ben Serrao, HR Business Partner, Ms. Lipitha Kitta, HR Recruiter and Mr. Anoop Kumar Pillai, Lead - Training & Development. The session was interactive with doubts being clarified by the HR professionals on various spheres of HR domain.

As a part of Industry - Academia interaction, students of first year and two faculty members of Department of Business Administration visited Deccan Plasts and Coastal Chip Boards, Baikampady. The officials of Deccan Plasts and Coastal Chip Boards briefed the students regarding the various functions, processes and policies of the company. Students had an opportunity to practically view the entire process and the final product produced by the manufacturing unit. Students asked several queries relating to Production, Finance, Marketing and HR functions to the workers on the job. There was good interaction by the students with the officials of both the corporate units.

INDUSTRY VISIT BY FIRST YEAR MBA STUDENTS

First year MBA students visited two manufacturing units namely Coastal Chip Boards & Lams Pvt Ltd and M. A. Board Products Pvt Ltd situated in Baikampady Area. Coastal Chip Boards & Lams Pvt Ltd manufactures allied wood which include a wide range of products like plywood, lamin board, particle board, fibre board, panels and other boards. At Coastal chip, students interacted with Site Supervisors and the Manager. Post which the students visited M. A. Board Products Pvt Ltd which is a sister concern of Coastal Chips. It manufactures flush doors, moulded doors, veneer doors, densified film faced plywood’s and so on. Students interacted with Mr. Sebin, Manager of the Company. He is a Production Site In-Charge and supervises the Marketing and HR related functions. Students had a premises tour of the manufacturing unit and interviewed several workers to sought answers to their queries.

MBA INDUSTRY EXPOSURE VISIT

As a part of Industry-Academia interaction, students of first year and two faculty members of Department of Business Administration visited ‘Friends Plywood Industries’, Baikampady. Mr. Pavananjay N, General Manager of Friends Plywood Industries briefed the students regarding the various functions, processes and policies of the company. Students visited four units of the firm and had an opportunity to practically view the entire process and the final product produced by the manufacturing unit. Students enthusiastically asked several queries relating to Production, Finance, Marketing and HR functions to the workers on the job. All queries were answered and Mr. Pavananjay N enlightened the students on the realities of plywood industry.

MBA CORE FINANCE STUDENTS VISIT TWO UNITS OF MASTER PLANNERY AT HALE NERENKY & PUTTUR

As a part of the course curriculum, 60 final year MBA core finance students visited two plants of Master Plannery located in Puttur and Hale Nerenky. They were accompanied by Prof Vidyavathy, Prof Ramesh K G, Prof Abhaya Kumar and Prof Gayathri Shetty. The students were shown the actual execution of the entire process of creating concood furniture, hollow block and other products. Mr Shyam, Site Engineer gave a broad perspective of the manufacturing process and appraised the team on the various activities of the unit in Hale Nerenky. Students visited various in-house workshops and personally interviewed the workers. Post-lunch students were taken to another branch of Master Plannery located in Puttur. Students had the opportunity of viewing the various innovative products manufactured under one roof of the unit.

MBA STUDENTS ON INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO MUMBAI

143 first year MBA students along with 3 faculty members, Mr. Chris and Mr. Omprasad, Tour Managers, Purple Squirrel Eduventures Pvt Ltd accompanied the team to Mumbai on a four-day exposure visit to various companies.

The team visited National Stock Exchange, Mumbai and were addressed by Mr. Gurudatta Dhanokar, Director, SME Value Advisors who explained the background of NSE, introduction to various departments within the NSE, and a simplified overview of capital markets, A live demo of trading or live terminal showing how the markets function, broader outlook of career options in capital markets and about NCFM and NCCMP certification programs. The students had an interactive session with the resource person.

The team visited Parle Products, India’s largest manufacturer of biscuits, in Mumbai. The students were taken through a presentation by the Mr. Kishore Shilke, Head HR, about the HR practices followed by the company. The company followed a unique HR practice of visiting the employees’ houses and understanding their problems and also letting the employees’ families know about the benefits of working for Parle which has actually led to more motivated employees being part of Parle family. The students were then taken around through the manufacturing process of biscuits and confectionary items. The HR Head of Parle has even offered to take students for internships.

The team then visited the unit of Bisleri International Pvt Ltd. Bisleri is a household name that pioneered the concept of mineral water in India bottled with its distinct green label. Mr. Amin Shaikh, Assistant Manager-Plant Operations and his team briefed about the plant and explained about the production process. The students got to know the importance of the need for maintaining hygiene in the plant during the process and also learnt about the quality checks that were taking place. Mr. Amin asked the students to give feedback so that he can improvise the plant further. Students visited prominent places of Mumbai during sightseeing and then returned to Mangalore. Purple Squirrel Eduventures, the SINE, IIT Bombay incubated company facilitated the industry exposure program.

THEORY IN PRACTICE FOR MBA STUDENTS

Students from second year MBA Marketing along with faculty members, Mr. Girish and Mr. Karthik, visited Pilikula Botanical Park to work on a project as part of their Business to Business Marketing and Sales and Retail Management subjects. The students were assigned a project to understand the issues of Pilikula Botanical Park and increase footfalls and also ensure more sales conversion happens in terms of Visitors to the Park. The students also had interactions with Mr. Vikram, Scientific Officer of the Park.

EXPOSURE VISIT TO MPHASIS, MANGALURU

Students specializing in HR from the department of Business Administration visited Mphasis, an HP Company, Mangaluru on an exposure visit. The company has recently been declared as a Tier 1 company. Mr. Joy Devasia, AVP & Lead Business Processing Delivery (Location Leader) and Mr. Vidyaranya Kollipal, Head HR addressed the students on the innovative HR practices in their organization. The Mphsasis management team was delighted to see a greater strength of female students who would want to pursue their career in a leadership role and was fascinated with the information they had about Mphasis through their research before the visit. of the Park. Mr. Joy Devasia emphasized that Digital Strategy is the need of the hour and all approaches/decisions should be driven through Digital Strategy. Students questioned aspects related to Employee Engagement, CSR Activities and Challenges in Recruitment & Selection which was clarified by them using real time scenarios of their organization. This visit has not only assisted the students to stay updated with the HR practices in the corporate organizations but has also enhanced their opportunities in the HR domain. EXPOSURE VISIT TO NAMMA BHOOMI, NEAR KUNDAPURA

A group of second year MBA students along with seven faculty members, Mr. Raghavendra Prabhu, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Mr. Ramesh, Mr. Girish, Ms. Sushma, Mr. Abhay Kumar and Mr. Lokesha visited “Namma Bhoomi (Our Earth)” ,a NGO nominated thrice for Nobel Peace Prize Award near Kundapura. The group of students and faculty members were welcomed by Mr. Nagaraj, Officer In-charge,Vocational Training, Namma Bhoomi and his team. Mr. Ramesh Mayya briefed the students on the parent organization “The Concerned for Working Children”. He briefed that the organization was a 30 year old organization and their programmes cover the rural and urban districts of Karnataka reaching out to working children and their communities, school children and local governments. He informed about the evolution of Makkala Panchayats and how it has been implemented by the government today.

The students and the faculty members were taken around the 6.5 acres of the campus and were explained the different training programmes that the students at their campus undergo which include Garment Stitching, Carpentry, Beautician Course, Computers, Pottery, Dairy and Farming.

Namma Bhoomi has residential accommodation at “Namma Halli”, a safe and funspace for 200 children. Recently, Namma Nalanda Vidyapeetha has been launched in a 10.5 acres campus close to Namma Bhoomi to house the educational activities.

Namma Angadi, a collective marketing platform for young traditional crafts persons of Karnataka was started in 1993 to empower young adults with a vocation and livelihood so that they need not migrate to urban centers in search of a livelihood and also to keep alive the rich tradition of rural India. The students and the faculty members enlightened on this concept and all of them were able to shop the products too which included Kurta, Kurti, Clay Items, Key Chains, Jute Bags, Patch work bags etc.

The MBA students conducted different activities for the children at the NGO and also shared their experiences which could help them build their career. They also donated stationary at the NGO.

In an exposure visit for students to practices of industry, 116 students of third semester MBA along with 6 faculty members visited Hindustan Unilever, Mangalore Unit. The students were assigned tasks on operations management, production technology, labor issues and marketing concepts of Hindustan Unilever. The students interacted with Mr. Chidanand, Production Manager of the Mangalore unit.

The first semester students of the Department of Business Administration visited RMC Ready Mix India Prism Cements Ltd, Alex group of fishnet & Kivi Sansho Packaging Pvt. Ltd. located in Manipal Industrial Area. 110 students accompanied by 4 faculties namely, Dr. Vishal Samartha, Mr. Girish, Ms. Shilpa Shetty & Mr. Ullas Sharma participated in the industry visit. The visit to the shop floor of the enterprises exposed the students to the various aspects of production. The students involved themselves in thorough discussion with the unit officials on matters concerning investment, returns, human resources and marketing. The visit was well appreciated by the students.

The Finance and Banking students of Department of Business Administration visited Baikampady Industrial Estate as part of industry visit. The team visited Konkan Speciality Poly Products Pvt. Ltd. It offers various grades of eco-friendly natural fiber reinforced plastic compounds which enable replacement of various commodity polymers and engineering polymers to make products more eco-friendly and lower carbon footprint. The team also visited Friends Veneer And Ply (P) Ltd., Baikampady, Mangalore, a leading manufacturer, supplier and importer of plywood. The managing partners of both the companies briefed about the financial management aspects. The visit exposed the students to the various aspects of production and was highly appreciated by the student community. The students were accompanied by Mr.Lokesh, Mr.Ramesh K.G. and Mr.Abhay Kumar, faculty members of the Department of MBA.
