MBAs distributed Essential Kits to 10 needy families in the region

Essential Kits

Due to the continued lockdown and no access to work, the financially poor are facing challenges in meeting their basic daily requirements. With this background, the CSR Committee of MBA Student Council had contributed basic essentials to serve 10 needy families in the region. Each kit had 5Kgs of Rice, 1 Kg of Sugar, ½ Kg of Tea Powder, 1 Litre of Cooking Oil and Soaps - Bathing and Washing. The 10 families were identified from the areas of Boloor, Shakthinagara, Panjimuger and Padil.

Animal Care Trust (ACT), an NGO having its shelter at Shakthinagara, Mangaluru is organizing a Two-Day Adoption Programme of Vaccinated & De-wormed Puppies & Kittens in Forum Fiza Mall during 14th – 15th Oct’17 from 4 pm to 8 pm. CSR is not an activity, it’s a necessity…

Over forty first year MBA students along with Prof. Padmanabha B, Prof. Ramesh K G, Prof. Naveen Pilar, NSS coordinator and Mr. Aamir Hassan Yousuf, Student Council - CSR coordinator spent time with the orphans of Bala Samrakshana Kendra, Kuttar. To add to their happiness they have been supplied with sports equipments. The Kendra had 30 children who thoroughly enjoyed the sessions conducted and games being organized to engage the kids. Winners were awarded and chocolates were distributed to all the inmates. Sport equipments were handed over to Ms. Ashwini, Warden of the Kendra.

Swachata Sankalp - Door- to –door awareness program on Cleanliness by Students and Staff of Sahyadri

The students and staff of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management took part in Swachata Sankalp, a door – to – door awareness building program about maintaining cleanliness and solid waste management organised by Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaladevi . Volunteers of Ramakrishna Mission along with students and staff of Sahyadri visited the shops and market at Kulshekara and gave awareness regarding solid waste management and urged them to keep their surroundings clean. Approximately 100 shops were covered and information about waste segregation and management was explained. This initiative by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Ramakishna Mission was well appreciated by the public.

Institutional Social Responsibility by the MBAs at District Level Special Children Cultural Event

Final Year MBA students accompanied by Prof. Raghavendra Prabhu volunteered at the District Level Special Children Cultural Event at Urwa Church Hall, Lady Hill, Mangaluru organized by Lions Club International Dist. 317-D. Besides, the students donated their contributions for the welfare of differently abled children.

MBA student appreciated for the contribution to an NGO during Internship

Aamir Hassan Yousuf, second year MBA student interned from "U&I", an NGO in Bengaluru. He worked with the HR team & was allotted the task of recruiting volunteers. U&I also gave him an opportunity to be a volunteer in a school named Church Jubilee Memorial Study Center (CJMSC).

CJMSC is a school located in Baiyapannahalli, Bengaluru which focuses on education for the children from the slum within the locality. Aamir assisted students in their academics as well as coordinated with the Montessori school. He believes that “Gaining knowledge is important but passing on the knowledge to the needy is our moral duty”. He has received a Testimonial from Prof. Sindhu, Principal, CJMSC - “Thanks Aamir for your commitment towards the cause of education. We, at CJMSC are grateful to your volunteering work. Students & Staff attended Vijay Diwas Commemoration Ceremony at the War Memorial located at Kadri Hills, Mangaluru on 16th December, 2017. Vijay Diwas marks the military victory of Operation Vijay of Indian Armed forces over Pakistan in 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, in alliance with Bangladesh Mukti Bahini. The ceremony was organized by D.K. Ex-Servicemen’s Association, Mangaluru, Lions Club International, District 317 D, Nitte Education Trust and Shasthavu Shri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust. The ceremony was graced by the presence of military veterans like Brigadier I.N.Rai, Col. Sharath Bhandary and Col. Vikram Dutta who were felicitated at the event. The key officers of the District Administration namely Deputy Commissioner of DK district Mr. Sasikanth Senthil S, CEO of Zilla Panchayat Dr. M.R.Ravi and Officers of the District Police Force namely Mr. T.R. Suresh, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru, Superintendent of Police Mr. C.H. Sudhir Kumar Reddy and various dignitaries of Lions and Rotary Club of Mangaluru were present during the programme. MBA students accompanied by the teaching faculty of the department Prof. Girish M, Prof. Ramesh K G, Prof. Padmanabha B and Academic Administrative Officer Staff Ms. Shreelatha U.M and student welfare officer Ms. Rashmitha observed and saluted the indomitable spirit, sacrifice and unfathomable valour of the martyrs of 1971 war.

Sahyadrians volunteer for Shramadaan at Polali

Students of NSS unit along with MBA students volunteered for Shramadan at Polali Shree Rajarajeshwari Temple under the guidance of Mr. Devdas Hegde, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation. Students volunteered to clear the debris and soil from the temple premises and used it to level the marshy fields by filling it with the excess mud. Student’s efforts were well appreciated by the local public. Prof. Padmanaba B and Prof. Ramesh K G, Department of Business Administration, Ms. Shreelatha, Academic Administrative Officer, Mr. Ankith S Kumar, Student Counsellor and office staff Mr. Shreekanth Shetty, Mr. Chandrashekar and Mr. Lokesh participated in this community service.

COMMUNITY INITIATIVE DRIVE "LEND A HAND - POWER OF 10"

"Joy of Giving" is in making time to help others, even if we are struggling with our own personal problems. Sahyadri Management Student Association (SMSA) led Community Initiative Drive “Lend A Hand - Power of 10” was successfully executed at Samvedana, ahome for HIV-Positive children, Pumpwell, Mangalore.

Department of Business Administration truly appreciates the gesture of students, not only MBA but also of Engineering who contributed generously to brighten the life of under-privileged children. It is worth mentioning of the objectives accomplished during the visit to Samvedana:


  • Sahyadri volunteers conducted sessions to educate children on hygiene, healthy eating habits, news paper reading, road safety, dressing habits, health awareness etc.
  • Sahyadri volunteers engaged with the children through Spot games & Quiz competition.
  • Sponsored a special meal which included the menu as suggested by the Samvedana Staff.
  • Granted the basic necessities for children like Bath Towel, Tooth Paste, Tooth Brush, Bathing & Washing Soap, Detergent Powder, Dish wash Soaps, Buckets & Mug, Tea Powder, Stationery Kit, Fruits & Biscuits, Chocolates and also Phenyl for the cleanliness of the Ashram.
  • Gave old clothes, in wearable condition.
  • Cake cutting to celebrate with the children.

Sahyadri volunteers returned with immense learning outcomes from looking at their hearty smile that - life is about smiling the heart out and living a very happy life. We take our life, our family and also our health for granted and somewhere fail to appreciate and acknowledge their presence in our life. People who don’t have it, realize its true worth.

Felicitation to SSLC and HSE toppers was organised in Sahyadri. Prof K Byrappa, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University, Mr. Ramesh, President, Urban Development Authority, Shivamogga and Syndicate Member, Kuvempu University , Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman and Dr. U M Bhushi, Principal, S.S.L.C. topper Mr. B.S.Ranjan along with his parents and media were present on this occasion.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman said that it is a great achievement in Karnataka. So far, after the SSLC board has been formed, no one scored cent percent till today. He stated that anyone can become doctors and engineers, when proper guidance and advice is given. He requested Prof K Byrappa to advice the topper, so that he can be a national asset. Students are the ones who build brand image. He insisted students to take the right career decision. He said that Ranjan should become a role model to India. B. S. Ranjan shared his opinion and his future aim in life. He said that everyone must cope up with competition and his own efforts . Life is just like a road hump and we must know to balance everything. He advised students not to be stressed when they fail. His goal in life is to become an IAS officer or MBBS, that is how he can serve the nation and his parents. He also added that he wants to stand on his own and needs outside exposure. Mr. Ramesh, Syndicate Member, Kuvempu University said that he has become the hero of Karnataka through his achievement. He is a role model for students. He wished all the best for his future. He also added that he has to do well in his future. He praised our institution, and innovative ideas of our Chairman. Prof. K Byrappa, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University, gave his presidential speech.It’s a great achievement since it is impossible to obtain full marks. Students have gift of grasping subjects which makes them to achieve good marks. This made history. To succeed in life one should have a goal and work hard to achieve it. Teacher’s play a very important role in moulding students. He told faculties to motivate students to think creatively and also added that students should have curiosity to learn new things. Principal Dr. U M Bhushi proposed the vote of thanks. He said Vice chancellor has delivered significant message to B S Ranjan. He said that this will take him to greater heights. He advised him not to lose interest in enjoying education, happiness, at the cost of marks.

SAHYADRI SUMMER CAMP INAUGURATED AT MEREMAJAL MANDAL PANCHAYAT

The Sahyadri Summer Camp was inaugurated at Meremajal Mandal Panchayat by the participating children. Mrs.Vrinda, Ex-President and Mr. Francis Mendonsa member, Mandal Panchayat, Meremajal, Dr. C. K. Manjunath, Administrator and Mrs. Shreelatha U A, AAO, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management participated in the inaugural programme and wished them best of luck and requested the students to make the best use of it. Students and faculty members of Sahyadri are engaging children with group games, crafts, dance, and other activities. Around 25 children from the 4 local schools are participating.

THE CHAIRMAN AND THE PRINCIPAL VISIT AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE YOGA UNIVERSITY

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman and Dr. U.M. Bhushi, Principal along with Mr. Karthik Bhandary from the Department of Business Administration visited the Yoga University at Bengaluru and made a humble contribution of Rupees Two lakhs to the 21st International Conference on Frontiers in Yoga Research and Its Applications - 21st NCOFYRA from the Sahyadri Corpus fund. Many of our faculties will be involved as volunteers in the conference to be held from 3to7 January, 2016 at Prashanti Kutiram, Bengaluru.

The Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (VYASA), Bangalore, the Centre of Excellence for Yoga and Yoga Research is organizing the said conference which shall be an ideal platform for exchange of knowledge including technology, thus enabling in achieving a new mile stone in the area of Integrated Health Care System. The Conference makes the beginning of a new era in Integrated Health System, which aims at making healthcare affordable to one and all. The Conference is a galaxy of diversified personalities participating in it.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP AND CSR ACTIVITIES

Lions and Lioness Club International, Bantwal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and KMC Blood Bank, jointly organised “Amma” a blood donation camp and other social activities at Birva Center, Melkar, Panemangalore. His Holiness Manila Sridhama Mohandas Paramahamsa Swamijee inaugurated the programme. His Holiness said that there is no label for blood, air and water. It is present in each one of us and we use air and water without any discrimination of caste and religion. Sri Jagannath Chowta, Trustee, Bhandary Foundation was one of the Guests of Honour. Sahyadri donated basic essentials for living to five poor families and clothes to three poor club adopted students of PUC, standard ten and eight. Donations from Sahyadri were handed over to the poor by the Guest of Honour, Sri Jagannath Chowta and student representative Miss Nishmitha Shetty. Around 192 blood donations from the public were recorded. B. Raghavendra Prabhu, faculty member and first year MBA students volunteered and coordinated the programme.

BUDDING SCIENTIST MAKES THE DISTRICT PROUD

Ms. Rashmi Parvathi, seventeen-year-old scientist of the district, studying at Vivekananda P.U. College, Puttur, was selected to attend the International Convention in the United States of America held in May 2013. She presented her project on Agricultural Research at Houston. Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation, felicitated her and presented a cheque for Rs.1.5 Lakh from the Corpus Fund through Mr. Abhishek Goyal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada District, in order to meet travel expenses. She received a gold medal for her research studies at the International Convention at USA. Rs. 1.00 lakh contributed to Alpha Flying Club is to provide a platform to showcase the skill set and innovative mind of students and to promote and nurture the knowledge acquisition of all phases of aircraft design and development, by initiating, supporting and participating

SUMMER CAMP: SAMBHRAMA-2014 FLAGGED OFF

Sambhrama-2014; a four-day summer camp for school children organized by Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management was flagged off at Holy Family Church School, Meremajal, by the lighting of the lamp. Mrs. Vrinda, Gramapanchayat President, Meremajal, Fr. James, Coordinator, Holy Family Church, Meremajal, Sister Elizabeth, Principal, Holy Family Church School, Mrs. Revathi, Headmistress, Abettu Govt. School, Prof. M. N. Nayak, Administrator, and Mrs. Sheerlatha U. A., AAO, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management graced the occasion. The resources persons, Mr. Ramesh K.G., Assistant Professor-SG, Department of Business Administration, Mr. Naveen Pilar, Coordiantor, Department of Art & Culture, Mrs. Ranjitha B. Assistant Professor, Department of English, Ms. Raksha, Placement in-charge and Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, were also present during the function. Sixty-two children from three schools are participating in this camp. The summer camp began with some fun games and painting. Twelve students of the college helped as volunteers to conduct the camp.

SAHYADRI SUPPORTS DIFFERENTLY-ABLED STUDENT

Ms. Josny Jesma Tellis, from Shimoga has been sponsored by Sahyadri College Corpus Fund for her MBBS. She is differently-abled and Scored 85% in her Pre- University Examination.

BLOOD DONATION - A NOBEL DEED

Sahyadri Educational Institutions and Canara Bank Officer’s Association in conjunction with Tejaswini Hospital, KSHEMA, and Indian Red Cross Society DK District Branch, organized a blood donation camp in the Sahyadri Campus

Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor, Nitte University, inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp. Mr. G. Rajendran, Deputy General Manager, Canara Bank, Mangalore Circle Office, Mr. G. V. Manimaran, Gen. Secretary, CBOA and Director of Canara Bank, Dr. Murali Mohan C., Director, Indian Red Cross Society, DK., were also present. Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, welcomed the guests.

Dr. Bhushi along with students and staff donated blood enthusiastically which was highly appreciated by the Chief Guest.

Under corporate social responsibility an amount of Rs. 25,000/- from the Sahyadri Corpus Fund has been handed over to Master Akhil R. M., student of Std. VIII, Lourdes Central School, Bejai, Mangalore, to participate in the World School Chess Championships 2013 at Porto Carras, Halkidiki, Greece, from the 6 to 15 May, 2013.
