Librarians Message

"Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life. Libraries change lives for the better."

Sidney Sheldon

Libraries are backbone of any civilized society and heart of any academic institutions. Information is one of the most important ingredients of our academic activities. Information leads to the generation of knowledge. An academic institution always takes necessary steps to gather or procure relevant bits of knowledge from various sources. Needless to say it is the Library and Information Centre of the institution that is entrusted with the task of procuring, organizing and displaying the various sources of knowledge in different media and also disseminating them to the users. Thus the library at Sahyadri College of Engineering and management also acquires a prominent place among the students and faculty. The library provides students, staff and faculty members for updating their knowledge and supporting the research and teaching / learning activities. Keeping in view of the needs of current and upcoming user, we are maintaining Dewy Decimal Classification and AACR II cataloguing system through OPAC/WEBOPAC. Library is considered to be a "Delivery Room for the Birth of Ideas". Without a good library, no education system is complete and perfect. I invite you to visit the library in order to enjoy the wealth of information resources available in the library in various forms.

NPTEL

The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a project funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) was first conceived in 1999 to pave the way for introducing multimedia and web technology to enhance learning of basic science and engineering concepts. Significant infrastructure has been set up earlier for production of video-based teaching material by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and Technical Teacher Training Institutes (TTTI). In the first phase of the NPTEL project (June 2003-June 2007), seven IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have worked together to develop web and video based material for basic undergraduate science and engineering courses in order to enhance the reach and quality of technical education in the country. Five engineering branches (Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical) and core science programme that all engineering students are required to take in their undergraduate engineering in India were chosen initially. Contents for the above courses were based on the model curriculum suggested by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the syllabi of major affiliating Universities in India

Open Access Journals (OA)

Open Access (OA) Journals are scholarly journals that are available online to the reader "without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself". They remove price barriers (e.g. subscription, licensing fees, pay-per-view fees) and most permission barriers (e.g. copyright and licensing restrictions). While open access journals are freely available to the reader, there are still costs associated with the publication and production of such journals. Some are subsidized, and some require payment on behalf of the author.

This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. Open access journals as journals that use a funding model that does not charge readers or their institutions for access. They allow users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles. The Aim and Scope of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact.
